multi-disciplinary climbing

climbing yesterday was damn bomb. it made me realised how multi-disciplinary the whole thing is.

firstly, mathematics:
If Willy fell from the top of the 6th panel to the middle of the 3rd panel, calculate his fall factor. [2m]

next, physics:
For the questions, you can assuming zero air resistance unless explicitly stated and g=9.81ms^-2

Willy was lead climbing the rock wall in Bukit Gombak. After climbing 6m of the wall, he accidentally fell from the wall. He fell to a distance of 2.5m off the ground before being stopped by the dynamic rope.
a) calculate his velocity just before he stopped. [2m]
b) what is the time taken for him to complete the fall? [2m]
c) if his belayer, Joel went up a distance of 1.0m, what is his final velocity? [2m]
d) calculate Joel's impulse [4m]

(wanted to draw a diagram for this, but much too lazy to =P)

then after that is bio:
1) Epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, plays a central role in the short-term stress reaction—the physiological response to threatening, exciting or environmental stressor conditions such as ...blah blah blah... has a suppressive effect on the adaptive immune system.

and it also PREVENTS YOU FROM FEELING ANY PAIN!!! which is why i didn't realise i was scratched quite badly after falling, until i looked at my knuckles.

2) The outermost layer of our skin is composed of dead squamous epithelial cells and their functions of include secretion, absorption, protection, transcellular transport, sensation detection, and selective permeability.

realised the truth of it when i was bathing. ow

well, thats pretty much it, and contrary to common believe, it is actually quite fun to fall over 4m, assuming you stop above ground level. thanks to joel for saving my life and thanks to zhixuan for being in the same boat as me =). well, still looking forward to the next rock-climbing sessions! w00ts
