I brought my internet friends kayaking at paddle culture yesterday. there were altogether 9 of us, and i was the only one with cert. so all of them had to take the open deck, while i took the infamous cyclone.
i had big dreams. it didn't seem so big at first, but when i saw them get into the boat, i began reconsidering my 'dreams'. I had wanted to bring them to macs for a little reward in a mini expedition kind of thing. but noooooo. we barely got past the first breakwater when 3 of them called to me with defeated looks on their faces. one was already nauseous after barely 200m of paddling, the other 2 we just tired and perhaps paranoid of drowning.
anyway, I became the unofficial instructor of that day, teaching them how to hold their paddles, how to paddle properly and efficiently, how to turn, stop, etc. I even demonstrated a capsize and rescue. wahahaha.
the 3 of them gave up with the hour, while the other 5 could take it, so we had a great time paddling here and there, splashing each other and racing. all of a sudden, the sky started pouring and the wind went insane. within minutes, our swimming pool-of-a-sea became an insane monster (much like how elysa, nicole and qian hua will remember me on our little trip to downtown east on the handover day. to nicole: escappppeeeee. muahhaa) Anyway, to return to the beach up point, we had to go totally against the current. the waves were extremely choppy, but it was really fun riding on it. the rain pelted in our faces, and the wind meant that we couldn't push our paddles properly because the wind would push against the face that was up in the air.
we eventually reached back, exhausted, but having had a great time and a wonderful experience. and now they're quite interested in kayaking more. isn't that what odac is supposed to do... impart the love of outdoors to others? ^^
grace is happy. muahaha!
